OMRON SYSTEMS, INC. EXHIBITS MULTI-PURPOSE RETAIL PLATFORM AT 1998 NRF CONVENTION

Schaumburg, IL (January 1998) - Omron Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of Retail Systems, is exhibiting the Vantage 7000 Plus, a multi-purpose hardware platform in exhibit #519 at the National Retail Federal (NRF) Annual Convention in New York City, January 19-21. 

Specifically designed to meet the rigorous and demanding operating conditions of Retail environments, the Vantage 7000 Plus can be configured as a POS terminal, independent In Store Processor (ISP) or a POS/ISP work station. 

Omron recently completed installation of  ISP configured Vantage 7000 Plus' in over 2700 Dollar General variety stores nationwide. Currently, Omron is installing POS configured Vantage 7000 Plus' for the U.S. Navy (Nexcom) on 200 ships for concession operations.   Versions of the Vantage 7000 Plus are also installed in over 500 Bills' Dollar variety stores, on Princess Cruise Line ships, and in a number of Specialty store retailers.

The Vantage 7000 Plus delivers the processing power required to support Windows NT and Windows 95, as well as DOS based applications. The motherboard supports 100 MHz through 200 MHz Intel Pentium processors.  It features a ZIF socket providing a migration path to upgraded processors as requirements change, without a major re-investment in hardware. Six 72-pin SIMM sockets  support up to 384MB of RAM memory to optimize throughput and performance in ISP configurations and graphic intensive applications.  In addition, an on-board 64-bit graphic and video accelerator, and Soundblaster audio option deliver the high performance required to run various multimedia applications.

The Vantage 7000 Plus features pipeline burst SRAM cache memory (up to 512K), PCI BUS mastering and Universal Serial BUS support.  Parallel, serial, keyboard, and mouse ports, in addition to three ISA and one PCI expansion slots, are available to facilitate system I/O and peripheral connectivity.   Multi-drive configuration support can facilitate disk mirroring as well as configuration of additional system drive options.

The Vantage 7000 Plus has a low profile footprint allowing the processor unit and peripherals to be counter-mounted (stacked) or remoted to accommodate virtually any checkstand configuration requirement.

The front of the unit features a security panel with keylock to prevent unauthorized access or use of system drives.  The rear of the unit also includes a security panel with keylock to prevent inadvertent or deliberate tampering with cables or connectors.

The Vantage 7000 Plus is an ideal solution for retailers requiring a single source, pre-integrated open system hardware platform.  Depot, on-site, and customer specific maintenance programs are provided by Omron on a national basis, in addition to pre-staging, integration, site preparation, and other Professional Services.
